About

Buchanan Pottery is located in the beautiful San Gorgonio Mountain Pass area in Southern California. Hi, my name is Vickie, and I live there on a farm with my husband, Max, where we grow pistachios.

I have been a student of clay off and on for over 30 years. Essentially, I am self-taught. My love of clay started at the Walnut Creek Community Center in Northern California in 1980. I have been fortunate to have studied under Susan Peterson and Lucy Lewis at the University of California at Idyllwild. I have traded pots with the Indians at the Acoma Mesa in New Mexico. More recently, I have been a student at Mount San Jacinto College where I was introduced to raku by Gary Cominotto. My current focus is naked raku and saggar firing with ferric chloride. I was drawn to naked raku when I purchased Jane Perryman's book "Naked Clay" and fell in love with David Roberts' work.
